How Much Will It Cost?

We are not the cheapest company and have never aimed to be, we are also not the most expensive. We offer high quality work at fair prices. We will provide you with a free fully inclusive and firm quote before work starts, we don’t hide any part of the price and just charge what we quoted for.

We might be able to give a ball park cost over the phone but really we need to complete an inspection visit to provide a firm price. This also allows us to properly understand what work needs to be done, the state of the floor we are working with as well as other particular conditions relative to working in your home. We also need to understand what finish you want on your floor and can often show you samples.

This inspection and quote visit is free and you have no obligation to use us afterwards. It will be carried out by an expert cleaner and not a pushy salesperson. 

Up until now there have only been two ways to finish a clay floor - penetrating sealers or topical sealers. Penetrating sealers soak into the floor, so don’t wear and leave a completely matt invisible finish, but they leave the rough surface unchanged, so it holds on to dirt and is difficult to keep clean with day to day cleaning. Topical sealers form a smooth easy-to-clean layer on top of the tiles, but they don’t soak in, they can wear and flake off. Topical sealers can also have an undesirable “plasticky” finish and can discolour over time.

Rothwell’s still offers a long-lasting (15 years + ) impregnating sealer that a small amount of clients still want. It leaves a completely matt invisible finish, is cheaper to apply and does prevent liquids from soaking in. But it leaves a hard to maintain floor, that whilst long lasting, won’t last as long as a resin filled floor. Terracotta floors sealed with an impregnating sealer will build up dirt in the pits of the surface and will need professional cleaning to remove. We would recommend resin filled terracotta floors over impregnating sealers but it is your floor and you may choose this option.

Cleaning - For domestic homes this can normally be done within a day depending on the size of the area and if there are any old sealers to remove. For large commercial sites this will obviously be a bit longer, but with our team at Rothwell’s we have capacity to put extra people on a project to complete it in a timely manor. 

Drying – The bricks need to fully dry before the resin can be applied. This normally takes 3-5 days.

Resin Filling – We want to apply each application of the resin within 24-48 hours of each other. Normally we will apply one application per day for two consecutive days, and come back on the third day to check the finish and make sure you are happy with the result. If on the rare occasion a third application is needed or desired, we would apply it then.

The floor is ready for light use within 12 hours of the last application and normal use within 48 hours.

This means from start to finish we are normally completed within a week to ten days.
