Rothwell's Rug Cleaning Studio

Dusting All rugs are gently and thoroughly dusted to remove the large amount of dust that rugs can hold on to. With our rug dusting equipment we can send 40,000 harmonic vibrations a minute through a rug. This gentle vibration of the rug removes dust and small particles from deep within the rug.

Rug Washing Pool We have a purpose built, large, rug washing pool. This means we can bathe all suitable rugs for a safe true washing. Full submersion of oriental, Persian and other hand made rugs is the safest way to clean rugs while avoiding dye bleed or fibre distortion. Often these rugs were washed in the same way when first made and they have been washed in a similar way for hundreds of years. Bathing rugs is not only the safest way to clean most high end / hand woven rugs but also gives the best cleaning results. We use softened water for all our cleaning.

Dye Testing & Fixing For rugs susceptible to dye bleed (many handmade rugs) we test for the suitability of cleaning and apply a dye fix before cleaning to help stabilise the dyes. If you have a rug that already has dye bleed on from previous accidents or unqualified/unskilled rug cleaning attempts ask about our dye bleed reduction service.

Rug Centrifuge & Dehumidified Drying Room One of our big investments in rug cleaning was our rug centrifuge, used for careful spin drying of rugs. We also have a dehumidified drying room, and with the use of these we are in full control of the speed drying of your rugs, a vital ability in preventing amongst other things dye bleed. We do not use high heat to dry your rugs as this can be damaging to the integrity of the fibres.

Inspection Room In our large cleaning studio we have areas (large well lit rooms) just for the careful inspection of all rugs before, during and after cleaning. All rugs are carefully tagged and photographed for referencing.

How Much Will It Cost?

We are not the cheapest company and have never aimed to be, we are also not the most expensive. We offer high quality work at fair prices. We will provide you with a free fully inclusive and firm quote before work starts, we don’t hide any part of the price and just charge what we quoted for. We can often quote via the phone or by email but will need the sizes of the rugs and to ask a few questions. We also offer inspection / quote visits, these visits are free and you have no obligation to use us after. It will be carried out by an expert cleaner and not a pushy salesperson.

Stain Protection

Extra help against future soiling. For those of you wishing to give extra protection for your rugs we can apply a stain protection after cleaning. This works by surrounding each fibre in the rug with a protective invisible coating which makes the rug resistant to everyday soiling, water-based and oil-based stains. This protective coating does not affect the look or feel of your rugs. Stainguarding (or "protection") does not protect against everything but is a useful tool to help keep your rugs looking clean for longer.

Is Rug Cleaning Good For My Rug?

Yes

Dust and dirt within your rug creates a sandpaper effect rubbing against the rug fibres scratching and wearing them out. This ages them before their time and can lead to 'bald' patches in the pile - with many rugs being beautiful works of art this is a real shame. Rothwell's rug cleaning service is not just designed for the immediate better appearance of a rug but all aspects are also done with the long term health of the rug in mind.

My Rug Smells, Can You Help?

Yes.

We often see contaminated rugs that have odour issues such as urine, pet odours or general musty smells. These can be treated effectively within our rug washing pool by adding a variety of bacteria killing products safe for the use on rugs. Urine and pet odours we know we can always remove, occasionally rugs with rubber backings can have smells from a latex backing that might not be removable but this is rare. If you have a rug with an odour problem please let us know. Urine can also destabilise dyes so please inform us of any urine contamination.

Can You Clean Silk Rugs?

Yes

Of course silk rugs (and viscose) take extra care and attention in both cleaning and drying. They often need lots of extra grooming both after cleaning and after drying. Silk rugs need to be cleaned in a way that the fibres are evenly wet to prevent pile distortion. We love cleaning silk rugs as the look and feel after cleaning can be truly breathtaking as the colours become refreshed.
