How we renewed a customer’s tarmac drive.
We had a call from a customer asking about their tarmac drive. The drive was not very old but was starting to look tired with faded colour, algae growth and a few cracks. These cracks were starting to grow weeds and the customer didn’t want this getting worse.

We arranged a free site visit with them so we could inspect the drive. Once we had a plan, we talked through all the options with them and discussed how we would proceed.

The first thing was to obviously clean the area. With a small team of us we pressure washed the drive with our petrol engine, high capacity pressure washer with various pressure heads. We were careful to use only cleaning products that do not disturb the stability of the tarmac as some products can damage the soft nature of tarmac.

Once we had a clean, dry drive it was time to fill the 10-15 cracks that had started to appear, in fact the customer told us a few around a manhole cover had been there since the drive was laid. These were filled with a liquid tarmac filler and then left to set hard. Filling these cracks will be important to the long-term condition of the tarmac. It's these spaces that weeds will grow into, further disturbing and cracking the tarmac finish.

Then we re-coated the whole drive with a tarmac resurface product. This is more than a paint as it actually bonds in with the tarmac by soaking into the surface and replacing the resins lost from exposure to the elements, meaning it lasts much longer than drive paint. After two coats of the tarmac resurface product the customer was left with a new looking, jet black drive, as good as the day it was laid. This made our customer very happy as it lifted the whole look of their home.
